Montana and New Jersey Increasing Minimum Wage in 2017

rising-wages-dollar-sign-168x300Beginning January 1, 2017, Montanans and New Jerseyans earning minimum wage will receive an increase in their pay. Both states are required to adjust their minimum wage rates based on the increase in the Consumer Price Index (CPI). CPI is a measure of the average change in prices of goods and services purchased by households over time.

With a 0.7 percent increase in the CPI over the 12-month period from September 1, 2015 to August 31, 2016, Montana and New Jersey have adjusted their 2017 minimum wage rates. The New Jersey Department of Labor and Industry has announced that the minimum wage will increase from $8.38 per hour to $8.44 per hour. Montana’s Department of Labor announced that their minimum wage will increase from $8.05 per hour to $8.15 per hour. Both states will be updating their minimum wage notices to reflect the new rates.
