Manitoba, Canada Minimum Wage Increases October 1

Manitoba’s minimum wage will increase October 1, 2014. Currently the wage rate is $10.45 per hour for most industries. On Wednesday October 1, 2014 the minimum wage increases by 25 cents to $10.70 per hour.  All employees must receive the minimum wage regardless of the number of hours they work unless they are not covered by provincial employment standards or are excluded from the legislation. Exclusions usually include those working in domestic service for less than 12 hours per week or workers in federal or provincial government-sponsored training programs.

There are also two new unpaid leave of absences for qualified employees: Child with Critical Illness Leave and Death or Disappearance of a Child Leave.
